We hear a lot today about Artificial Intelligence — about the data centers, the power it takes to run them, the water it takes to cool them. We hear it dismissed as nothing to see here, and we hear it warned about as something that will take over our world.

This series won’t do either. LIVING WITH AI IN HEALTHCARE follows our earlier LIVING WITH AI series, exploring where artificial intelligence is actually fitting into our world today — this time in healthcare, something that touches every one of our lives. The first essay looks at the U.S. back office; the essays that follow widen the lens to AI in healthcare more broadly.

Exploring Our World Energy Story

The essays you are about to read grew out of something none of us could ignore — the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and what it revealed about how dependent the world remains on a remarkably fragile energy supply chain. Three essays became seven, and seven have become the foundation of something larger: a new series called Exploring an Energy Story Still Being Written.

A note on the images in this series: the photographs throughout MY VIEW are my own. For these essays, where the subjects range from underground salt caverns to battery chemistry to the Strait of Hormuz itself, we are using AI-generated images to introduce and illustrate the content.
