There are times for solitude, Quiet, and Nature
Yesterday morning, at daylight, the kids and I launched the Bird Barge at the Barge Landing Boat ramp, Vancleave, Mississippi, near the headwaters of Bluff Creek. It was a gorgeous morning; the river, though flowing pretty well, was like glass. We had no particular destination but a full tank of fuel and two fully charged trolling batteries. When it is Patty, the kids, and I, we travel slowly, Patty listening and both of us on the lookout for birds. In this case, the kids and I averaged 14 MPH. The Bird Barge is very efficient with fuel, is very quiet, and doesn’t disturb the water much. Just enjoying the beautiful morning.

We followed the flow of the river south. When I say we had no particular destination, you might say, Rich, you are on a river; how many choices do you have? Well, on the way down Bluff Creek, you pass numerous navigable options: feeder creeks, bayous, and then you come to Pascagoula West River, where you can go north or south, if you go south, you run into Pasagoula main river where you can go north up into the Pascagoula Widlife Mgt area where we frequently bird and explore or you can continue south under the I10 interstate bridge, then under the Hwy 90 bridge, Underneath the railroad causeway, and out into the Gulf of Mexico. If you continue south, you can run into Round Island, which we did. Just about 23 miles each way. Taking a few pictures along the way.

โThe longer we listen and the quieter we are, the more we hear. And, when we do hear, we become part of the music instead of an unwelcome interruption.โ
