Heading to breakfast Sunday morning, we chose Phoenicia restaurant because it was too chilly to eat outside with the dogs, besides, their pancakes are always the best. It was 47° F (8.3° C) when we went in, and 67° F (19.4° C) an hour and a half later when we arrived at Mars Lake!
It turned out to be a beautiful day. We stopped at Gulf Island National Seashore Park and took a panorama to give you an idea of what the Davis Bayou Coastal Preserve looks like. We saw the Adult Great Horned Owl sitting on the edge of their nest. Occasionally, a tiny head would pop up, too small to see in the photo yet, but in another week or so, we will start to see the fledglings.
From there to Lake Mars, watched the Osprey hunt, catch, and fly off to eat their mullet catch.
From there, a drive north of the house into the De Soto National Forest, where Patty saw and heard a great deal, and the lazy photographer only captured a beautiful Red Bellied Woodpecker.
