Dauphin Island
Wednesday I had planned to go fishing on the Bird Barge, with Byron, Ray and Mike, but Mother Nature had other plans, blowing 15 to 20 MPH out of the northeast. Though the fish would likely not notice, the four of us would have been bounced about the Mississippi Sound like a cork. Patty was planning a trip to Dauphin Island for the annual Banding Coalition of America’s Dauphin Island Bird Banding,so I decided to tag along.
We got there early, thankfully as they had a great turnout and by the time we left there was quite a crowd. It was very windy on the island but we saw a bit, visited with some of the staff that we know, and took a few photos. We plan another Dauphin Island trip this month when Patty can focus on birding the Shell Mound, the Goat Tree Reserve and the Audubon park.
It is a small world, on the way off the Island on the causeway, we spotted two birding friends, Mark and Brian, and stop and joined them for a visit and bird viewing.
