Patty is back home, and while she was away I put a new deck on her birding chair platform. Yesterday morning we headed out to Ward Bayou — migration season is in full swing, everybody’s headed south, and there’s plenty of color and activity out there. The waders were sparse, but hurricane Isaias out in the gulf has the migration stalled and Patty was seeing and hearing quite a few migrating birds.
About halfway along the trail, Fish and Wildlife employee Todd came along and stopped to talk. He ended up spending about an hour with us, telling us all about Ward Bayou and some hidden gems we never knew existed — old logging roads and trails that open up into areas we’ve never explored in all the time we’ve been going out there. Twelve hundred acres, and we’ve barely scratched the surface. We’ll be doing some new exploring soon.
Plenty of birds below — I hope you enjoy them.

And to everyone on the coast — hunker down and good luck getting through hurricane Isaias.
