Greetings Family and Friends,
MY VIEW began as a photography site — a place to share what Patty and I discover as we explore our new Mississippi coast home: the rivers, bayous, the Mississippi Sound, and the surrounding forests. The people who signed up wanted to follow along on those adventures, and that has never changed.
But the site has been evolving. The Reading Room grew out of a simple idea: the same people who enjoy a photograph might enjoy knowing what we are reading and why — share their recommendations, reflections, the books that stuck with them. A few have contributed already, and the door remains open. The Ideas & Open Forum section followed — a place for things that don’t fit in a gallery but feel worth sharing and thinking about together. The Living with AI series was the first real experiment with that space, and the response was positive enough to keep going.
This week, that evolution takes another step.
I am launching a new series — Exploring Our World Energy Story. The Strait of Hormuz crisis opened a door that was impossible to walk past. What started as three essays trying to make sense of what was happening in the Persian Gulf turned into a larger question — one that the crisis didn’t create but has made impossible to ignore: where does the world’s energy story actually go from here?
The series is exactly what the name says — an ongoing, honest exploration of energy: how we produce it, store it, depend on it, and might someday depend on it differently. No conclusions, no agenda. Just research, fact-checking, and following the story wherever it leads.
The first post is live now, with new essays arriving every Tuesday and Friday. I hope you’ll come along.
For those waiting on the next AI series — AI in the Medical World — it is coming. The energy story pushed its way to the front of the line. In the meantime, my own journey with cancer has given me a far more personal window into exactly that subject — how AI is quietly woven into diagnosis, treatment planning, and the conversations between patients and their medical teams. That experience will find its way into the series, and I think it will make it better.
A note about the MY VIEW site:
In July, while Patty is on a birding expedition to Alaska, I intend to lock myself in the office and do some long-overdue housekeeping. The Ideas & Open Forum section will be significantly reorganized — cleaner, easier to navigate, with equal access to everything rather than the long scroll it is today. The Reading Room’s bookshelves and recommendations, which have grown and become a slightly unwieldy collection, will get the same treatment — better organized, easier to browse.
