All of our Sunday morning restaurants open at seven, and we’re always there at opening time. Us and the three kids. Sunday morning, we decided to try a restaurant that we had tried several years ago, and it didn’t open till eight. So having a little extra time on our hands, we decided to stop by. Old Beaver Pond, over on off of Fifteen. And we were rewarded with some babies. The black belly whistling duck had two babies, and a wood duck was out there with five babies. And purple gallinule, there were four or five I suspect, and a few other species. Enjoy and see if you can find the babies; they’re well camouflaged.

The two ducklings are left of the parent. At hatching, they are covered in soft, black-and-yellow downy feathers and can walk, swim, and feed themselves almost immediately.

“In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous.”
As a side note, the restaurant didn’t work out; it’s Lazy Oaks. A lot of people go to it, and must like it. We sat down at an outside table and the waitress came out and was standoffish with the dogs; that always sets me off. She asked for our drink orders and we both wanted coffee, Patty with whole milk and me black. She came back out with two paper cups, sealed paper cups with straws, Patty’s milk already added. At three dollars a piece there were no refills. I was ready to leave.Go to an expensive restaurant and be served in a paper cups. I was also disappointed in the huge pancake that was more like a tasteless cake about an inch thick and about 14 inches in diameter. I took about four bites and that was all I wanted. Patty wanted a simple two egs, grits and bacon, they don’t have that but she could order it à la carte, it arrived à la carte, on three separate, tiny and cold plates, she did not eat hers either. The bacon was good!
